What’s this all about?

We love whole grains! We have found that we prefer their flavor. They are also far healthier than the refined foods which characterize the typical modern diet.

Switching to whole grains helps maintain a low glycemic diet. That means you will have more sustainable energy levels throughout the day, and probably fewer problems with weight control.

We created this website with one goal: to build an online community of like-minded people who either share our enthusiasm about whole grains or just want to learn more about them.

Do you eat much corn? It is a grain, you know. We often treat it like a vegetable. I’m not all that crazy about corn. I think that nutritionally there are other grains available that make better choices. When it comes to dipping a grain into some delicious guacamole, however, not much else really comes close.

Moroccan-Spiced Carrot Raisin Bread

A recipe I created when I was getting tired of banana bread and pumpkin bread, this sweet loaf combines whole grains, carrots, and raisins and gives them a Mediterranean twist. It’s the perfect light dessert, afternoon snack, or indulgent breakfast. The creative combination of flavors more than makes up for the fact that this recipe is also low-fat and low-sugar!

whole wheat pancake

My preschooler asked for pancakes this morning. We have a wonderful buttermilk pancake recipe that we have made for years, but when I looked in the refrigerator all we had was our usual organic soy milk. We almost always use soy milk in our baking and you would never notice the difference. I had never tried it in our pancakes however.

Almond Fig Cake

This is a Bundt cake….more of a coffee cake consistency. It’s actually very good with a cup of joe or tea. Very yummy if you like figs and almonds!

honey oatmeal cookie

These little ‘cookies’ are almost too healthy to be called a cookie. My dad has been on a life long search for a cookie that wasn’t too sweet so, after playing around with the ingredients, I have finally achieved what he wanted. In fact, he thinks they are so good and nutritious that we should call them a nutritional supplement!
